The Self-Advocacy Board of Directors is comprised of individuals with
developmental disabilities. These Board members represent you
and the region that you live in. They bring to the Board meetings
issues and concerns that are specific to the regions in which you live.
They are your voice.
There are 18 Board members from around the State of New York. The State
is divided into 6 regions Capital District, Hudson Valley, New York
City, Long Island, Western and Central. Each region has 3 Board
members. Board members are elected by you, their peers, in local
elections. The Executive Committee is elected by the Board of
Directors. The positions that make up the Executive Committee are
President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Board members are elected for a term of 3 years, and may only serve
twice (for a total of 6 years). Board members are required to attend
quarterly Board meetings, which require travel and overnight stays in
Albany, New York.
