board of directors of the Rochester Area Chapter of the Autism Society
of America between 1991 and 1996. She currently works as a part-time
service coordinator at The Advocacy Center in Rochester, and is working

productivity. Mrs. Muir spent many years as a stay at home mom and
full-time advocate for her son Nathan, and helped him to be included in
the same school and community activities as his older brother. Mrs.

develop a self-determination plan that would lead to the achievement of
his goals: to live in and care for his own home, and to work at a job
he likes in the community. She now wishes to help others achieve
self-determination. Mrs. Muir believes that all individuals should have
opportunities to learn and grow, to participate and to make their own
choices. When people have control over their own lives, they are
engaged, motivated, and purposeful. All people have individual gifts to
