Jigiya update report to S.A 3/22

DEAR FRIENDS

We  are all fine at Jigiya. We wish you and your families a lot of prosperity.
We received the first donation of the year 2008 late February: 300 dollars= 129380 cfa. We are very grateful .We deposited 100000 cfa, used 9380 cfa for administration and allocated 20000 cfa to significant disabled. The beneficiaries of the allocation are: Massaya Coulibaly, Hawa N’golo Coulibaly, Abdoulaye A Diarra and Backo Thiero. The comments are recorded; I wish I could send the cassette.

The rest of the donation has been used to:

  1. accord a total loan of 73000 to four members
  2. buy 15 other bags of millet(180500 cfa) and a large USV key for storing information.

The bank of cereal presently consists of 30 bags (nearly 3 tones) of food grain. We would like to build or rent a store to keep these bags in one place.
We recently had a talk with some leaders of peer associations of disabled people in Mali. They plan to create a national federation grouping all the associations of disabled people in our country. They were very happy to hear about our fruitful cooperation with SA.

We will continue allocating 50 dollars to our members with significant disabilities. The four beneficiaries were speechless because of emotion. Their tears carried significant messages to both SA and Jigiya leaders. Their parents are very grateful. Massaya had got a prescription of 3000 cfa  two days ago; his poor mother could not afford it.
As far as developmental disabled are concerned, we will tell you about different cases from time to time. Here are two examples:

  1. ROKIA MAIGA is a little girl, 12 years of age. She is sitting for the CEP(certificate for  primary education) exam in May. She is deaf and we wonder how she will take the exam. She was ordered earphones a few years ago by a specialist doctor. Her parents are not able to pay them (nearly two million cfa). You must speak up so that she can hear you. In most cases she tries to guess your message through the movements of your lips; which leads her to misinterpretation. When she turns back she cannot hear any of your words. The little girl is very intelligent; but nobody will be surprised if she fails.
  2.  CHEICKNA BAH is a ten year old boy. During his babyhood he constantly suffered from fever and sharp pain in the bones; which might have affected his brain. He was sent to school so that he could be able to utter some words. But he failed. He is now at home and his parents don’t know what to do about him. He cannot keep his  saliva  The right side of his body  is almost paralysed. He spends all the time laughing. Developmental disability is a Chinese puzzle in our society

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING.
