| THINKING ABOUT JOINING A SELF-ADVOCACY GROUP? GREAT IDEA! |
Self-advocacy is speaking and acting on behalf of your own rights. It’s the best kind of advocacy because no one knows better than you what your needs are. To be a good self-advocate you need to know about your rights and responsibilities. You will learn these by joining a local self-advocacy group. The group provides a supportive environment where individuals can develop confidence and independence. HOW TO JOIN A GROUP Click on the link below to go to the Group Directory. If you do not find a group in the city or town you live in (see Meeting Location"), try to find one nearby or call the Self-Advocacy Assn. at (518) 382-1454 for help. Call the phone number and dial the extension, if there is one. Ask for the contact person and let that person know you are calling about the self-advocacy group and that you would like to get more information to join up. THAT’S IT! Join a group near you today! TROUBLE FINDING A GROUP? CALL THE SELF-ADVOCACY ASSOCIATION AT (518) 382-1454 AND WE CAN HELP! |
